This weekend marks the 82nd anniversary of the Academy Awards. As the directors, actors, actresses, and writers grace the red carpet on Sunday evening, many viewers at home will be eager to see who’s wearing what. Oh, yeah. And which film and individual nominees receive an Oscar on this night of glitter and suspense.
This weekend is as good of a time as any for each of us to do a bit of organization and clean-up in our personal film (read: DVD) libraries. Depending on the number of films you own, this could take anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. Three tips that may be helpful:
1. Identify the DVDs that you no longer wish to keep. Put these aside to share with family and friends, donate to a civic organization, or trade at a used DVD store.
2. Decide whether to keep your VHS tapes. There are companies that dub VHS tapes onto DVDs, so do some research before deciding to toss a decade worth of Disney VHS tapes. If you do choose to toss your tapes, consider giving them to friends or family who’d want to transfer the tapes to DVDs for their own use. You also may wish to donate them to a library, school, or local civic organization.
3. Now decide how you want to categorize your remaining DVDs and act accordingly. Some people choose to organize their films by genre. Others organize them alphabetically by title, and others group films together by director. Whatever you decide is great. Identify the plan that works for you and stick with it.
Once the organization and clean-up process is complete, your organized film library will make it that much easier for you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
